OEM – This stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer meaning the part is produced by or for the manufacturer of your vehicle.

Non-OEM (Aftermarket) – Parts produced by companies other than the original equipment manufacturer. Non-OEM (Aftermarket) parts are not manufactured nor warranted by the manufacturer of your vehicle. Non-OEM (Aftermarket) parts are the generic version of OEM parts. Other terms that identify these non-OEM parts are aftermarket, A/M, quality replacement part, QRP, CAPA, PXN, competitive part, and economy part.

Wisconsin’s Aftermarket Parts Law
Insurers are required by law (statute 632.38) to notify the insured if “non-original manufacturer replacement parts” (aftermarket) are intended to be used in the repair of the vehicle. Notice shall be in writing but a verbal statement is allowed if it is followed by a written notice within three days.
